Our itinerary

We will visit all of New England with the exception of Vermont on this journey. Connecticut will also be a bit of a drive-by, but hey, it still counts.

We will start in Long Island, New York, visiting family at the beach. Next, we journey by ferry to Connecticut and drive to Newport, Rhode Island, land of the wealthy.

After an evening there, we will drive to Lake Sunapee, New Hampshire by way of Plymouth Rock to stay with dear friends in their summer home.

After New Hampshire, we will trek to Portland/Kennebunk/Kennebunkport, Maine to check out lighthouses.

Our New England journey will end with a visit to Boston, Massachusetts.

And as an added bonus, we will then fly to North Carolina to visit "nana."

Canobie Lake Park -- Salem, New Hampshire

VM: Whew. We survived the day at Canobie Lake Park. Truthfully, it was really fun. The park is lovely. It caters to families so it has a great selection of rides for all the kids. There were only two rides where EM didn't make the cut. Otherwise, the kids went on lots and lots of rides.

If you are in the area, I recommend the park. It has a picturesque setting by the lake. It is impeccably clean. Friendly staff. Good selection of food. And just the right size. Not too big. Not too wimpy.

And one of the best surprises of the day was that they allow DOGS! I couldn't believe my eyes. As long as they are leashed, well-behaved and with responsible owners who clean up after
them, dogs are most welcome in the park. We particularly enjoyed meeting two new four-legged pals while there -- Bonnie, a four-month old Burmese Mountain dog
who look like a stuffed toy, and Skittles, a Schnauzer mix who was as friendly as his owner.

Weather was terrific today. I think that contributed to the overall relaxed vibe of the park. You just don't see/hear families in crabby moods. On the contrary, everyone is pleasant, happy and really enjoying themselves. Including us.

We are off to Maine on Friday morning. HM & EM will blog later as the day wiped them out! They are fast asleep in bed readying for the next adventure.
